Jason Bornhorst, Executive Director of Product Strategy at athenahealth
Recently named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in healthcare, Jason is a serial entrepreneur with a successful track record in mobile and a passion for healthcare innovation.
He is the former co-founder and CEO of Patient IO, an Austin-based care coordination platform used by providers to engage patients and caregivers outside the four walls of the clinic. Patient IO was acquired by athenahealth in August 2016, where Jason now serves as Executive Director of Product Strategy.
Prior to founding Patient IO, Jason was #2 and Director of Product at Mobiata. Mobiata built FlightTrack, one of the highest grossing travel apps of all time. Mobiata was acquired by Expedia in 2010, where Jason led the team that built the Expedia mobile app - a Webby award winning product.
Jack Nye, Vice President of Engineering at athenahealth
Jack Nye joined athenahealth in 2002, five years before the company’s Initial Public Offering. He spent three years as developer on the Collector product, before assuming the role of Director of Software Development. In that position, he developed and managed athenahealth’s software development life cycle, managed the teams that produced the Clinicals and Communicator products, and contributed to compliance, budget planning, and auditing for the company’s wildly successful IPO. Since 2008, he has served as Vice-President of Engineering, with Product Engineering responsibility for all of Athena’s products.
Prior to working at athenahealth, Mr. Nye worked at several other technology and research companies, including four-years at Schepens Eye Research Institute, a Harvard Medical School affiliate that fights blindness by developing new technologies, therapies and knowledge to retain and restore vision. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Mark Steiger, Director of Virtual Care at Seton Healthcare Family
Mark Steiger is an executive, lecturer and thought leader in the healthcare IT industry. Currently, Mark is the Director of Virtual Care and Innovation for Seton Healthcare Family where he leads telehealth efforts for Seton’s 11 Central Texas Hospitals and affiliated clinics. Mark previously held leadership roles at CommUnityCare, Austin Regional Clinic and Texas Medical Association. Mark developed and launched UT’s Health Information Technology certification program in 2010 and has been a lecturer for fourteen successive cohorts.
Mark holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin.
Lucas Artusi, Systems Designer at Design Institute for Health (DIH)
Lucas Artusi is a Systems Designer at the Design Institute for Health (DIH), a partnership between the Dell Medical School and the College of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin. Lucas focuses on understanding complex ecosystems in order to design cohesive systems of products, services, and experiences that transcend organizational boundaries.
Prior to working at the DIH, Lucas worked at international design firm IDEO as a product designer, focusing primarily on healthcare products and services. He continues to teach design at his alma mater as an executive education coach at the Stanford d.school.
When he’s off the clock, Lucas pursues his other passions: hiking, scuba diving, tinkering on projects, the Austin taco scene, and sci-fi movies.
Lucas holds a BS in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin and an MS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University.
Wendy Smith, Director of Health Tech at the Capital Factory
Wendy Smith has over 25 years of health insurance experience in Commercial, Medicare Advantage/Duals, Managed Medicaid, Exchange, direct to employer and indigent populations. She has worked with many of the nation’s largest healthcare companies including Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, PacifiCare and Ascension Health as well as several health insurance start-ups that went on to successful exits.
Ms. Smith is CEO of Wendy M. Smith and Associates a healthcare consulting firm focused on strategy, reimbursement negotiations, operations, and engaging innovation on behalf of health plans, physician organizations, ancillaries and health tech companies.
In addition to her corporate background, Wendy has a passion for advising health tech companies with a goal of improving efficiency and healthcare delivery. She advises and invests in several start-up organizations in this space.
Ms. Smith has an undergraduate degree from Southwestern University and Masters in Healthcare Administration from Texas State University.
